Each year, humpback whales back into the Antarctic to tropical waters Caledonia, Australia, Madagascar, ..., to reproduce and give birth in warmer waters and free of large predators for the calves. Tropical waters are also devoid of krill, the main food of whales, who fast during their stay.

It is therefore possible to observe in Prony Bay (south of Grande Terre) from mid June to mid September. We had already done a day's catamaran last year. But not fully satisfied with what we observed at the time, we decided to do it again.

So we embarked, accompanied by Camilla Stephan and Emilie, on the Captain Woodin, a monohull sailboat belonging to Didier, who in addition to its skipper and whale watching, makes occasional field trips with the consulting firm I work for.

We took advantage of the early days of Camille in the Territory for we walk from the Parc Provincial de la Rivière Bleue, located south of Stone. The Blue River Park currently houses over 600 individuals.

The weather was beautiful and pleasant hike. We were fortunate to observe two Cagous roadside!

Camille, a friend of the ULB, arrived on the Rock Saturday, July 31, 2010. When traveling for eight months in Australia and New Zealand, it should stay in Caledonia nearly 3 months.

Here (finally) the end of a long series. Jess and Morgan have definitely left the Territory a few days apart, respectively July 31 and August 2.

Jess, after a short stay in Montreal, will leave for 3 months in Southeast Asia and will return to France until early 2011.

Morgan spent two days in Perth with Graeme before joining Britain to prepare for their wedding in September and planned to return to live in Australia.
