Trek 2.1 Wsd Specialized Dolce

Baie Prony (Sunday, 08.08.2010)

Each year, humpback whales back into the Antarctic to tropical waters Caledonia, Australia, Madagascar, ..., to reproduce and give birth in warmer waters and free of large predators for the calves. Tropical waters are also devoid of krill, the main food of whales, who fast during their stay.

It is therefore possible to observe in Prony Bay (south of Grande Terre) from mid June to mid September. We had already done a day's catamaran last year. But not fully satisfied with what we observed at the time, we decided to do it again.

So we embarked, accompanied by Camilla Stephan and Emilie, on the Captain Woodin, a monohull sailboat belonging to Didier, who in addition to its skipper and whale watching, makes occasional field trips with the consulting firm I work for.

The day promised to be sunny. We actually enjoyed the sun on the deck and admired several islands .... But unfortunately we have been even less fortunate than last year because we have not seen whales (except some blasts and a juvenile).

Maybe our luck we will resound mid September.
