Lifou: diving level 2 (2/09/10-6/09/10)

Julien: As we already mentioned, we decided to spend our level two diving Lifou. More than a year after the closure of the former club of the island, the activity was resumed by Annabella former manager of diving Safari Lagoon Beach Kuendu in Noumea, where we spent our first level that is already close two years! Tawaka, former instructor Kuendu Beach also came to settle in Lifou. Since its installation several months ago, they are also working with Jeff, a diving instructor originally from Lifu. The club is still under construction and Tawaka, after his morning dip, spends his afternoon in pouring cement to build the future of the club bungalows!

8 courses are required to obtain Level 2 and its equivalence ANMP PADI Advanced Open Water. We had arranged with Anabella to pass two courses in Noumea with the new club owner Kuendu Beach. The idea was to have it up exercises to be able to enjoy diving in Lifou. Nouméennes dives have been devoted to the theory and practice between 15 and 20m: dump mask, lungs ballasts, orientation, use the parachute, rigging, lift assisted by a conscious person, orientation, ...

We took off for Lifou September 2, 2010 for 4 days. Program, 6 dives. The first was dedicated to the theoretical background to the rise and assisted by a person unconscious, followed by a 250m swim at the surface with material on the back and 500-m palm snorkeling! The second allowed us to get a few minutes at a depth of 40m before exploring the beautiful Gorgon Valley. Small spot of fun, some divers can experience the thrill of depths from 40 m and for me it has not failed, I was a bit narked. Nothing very serious, and Annabella Julie, who accompanied me also did not notice anything, he just had to ascend a few meters so that the effect dissipates.

The rest of the dives was spent scuba diving (in pairs) at 20m, equipped with our computers and compasses . We have learned to manage the duration of the dive and decide on their own decompression stops to make ...

Visibility in Lifou is extraordinary. The coral, multicolored, is in very good condition and very fish. We have had occasion to observe - from the clown fish, surgeonfish, triggerfish, parrotfish, sharks and white tip reef sharks - a group of three giant tunas as well as tazar and beautiful sea fans. Little more for me, I had the opportunity to see sneak surface a hammerhead shark!

We were settled in beautiful holiday camping at Benedict, located next to the club. Despite the weather, we did little away from the house because the days were filled with diving. However, we had the opportunity to observe many turtles swim Santal Bay since the wharf near the campsite. This pier also serves as the landing of the 2000 Australians on board cruise ships plying the South Pacific. A show that we have not had the opportunity to observe! We also did a nice walk leading to the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes and overlooking the bay of Sandalwood.

As always the Loyalties, we took full advantage of the quiet places. We are therefore left with regret but with our level 2 in his pocket. Thank you to Annabella At Tawaka and Jef for their explanations, their professionalism and sympathy. We are very pleased to have chosen to spend our level two with them there. The dives were beautiful there!
