The festival, which lasts two weeks, offers daily demonstrations to explore the various facets of the Melanesian Arts (traditional and contemporary dances, music, crafts, lectures ...) at various sites around New Caledonia (Noumea , Koné, Lifou, ...).
We have therefore benefited from the various activities proposed to Noumea to discover the culture surrounding the islands of New Caledonia:
Tjibaou Cultural Center (18-19/09/2010)
Tjibaou Cultural Centre hosted various exhibitions, concerts, exhibitions, shops and traditional Melanesian dances. Blow of heart for the String Bands of Vanuatu you can see a video below. This is a traditional music generally played by young boys Vanuatu, with their ukuleles and guitars!
The Place of Coconut (9/22/2010)
Place of Coconut hosted a mid-week series of group to discover traditional tribal dances and tribal Melanesian islands. You will find below some video clips in the order with the dances of Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu and New Caledonia (Lifou).
Closing ceremonies at the Cultural Center Tjibaou (09/23/2010)
The closing ceremony offered a mini-festival bringing together artists such as Melanesian
Black Rose (videos 1 and 2), a native of Fiji, and widely known in the South Pacific, Dick &
Hnatr, a band from New Mare Caledonia and their famous song "It was France who pays" you will find an excerpt (video 3) and the lyrics below!
